An inclusive, diverse team

Our commitment

At Shared Services Canada (SSC), we are dedicated to the highest standards of equality, non-discrimination, anti-racism, inclusion, dignity and respect. For more information, see our Letter on Implementation of the Call to Action on Anti-Racism, Equity and Inclusion.

Mental Health and Well-being

SSC strives to create a culture that enshrines psychological health, safety and well-being in all aspects of the workplace through collaboration, inclusivity and respect—this obligation belongs to every individual in the workplace. Mental health promotion and psychological harm prevention are at the core of our organizational values.

Networks for our employees

SSC’s networks are guided by a desire to reinforce the importance of dialogue and collaboration among employees. They build unity among our employees and offer a pleasant and, above all, open environment. Join us!

Agora

Agora is an employee-led innovation network open to all SSC employees. It focuses on employee engagement to foster a dynamic work culture through information-sharing, collaboration, learning and professional development.

Diversity networks

The diversity networks promote the values of equality in the workplace and help build a culture of mutual respect. As the mosaic of Canada’s multicultural society evolves and grows, so must its public service. These networks provide members with a safe place to connect, discuss common issues, exchange information and voice concerns. Here are SSC’s diversity networks:

Visible Minorities Network

SSC’s Visible Minorities Network connects, engages and supports equity seeking employees. Its mission is to:

  • advocate for visible minority employees at SSC
  • address the challenges and issues they experience
  • hold initiatives that focus on unique experiences within and outside of the public service
  • create safer spaces based on support, knowledge sharing and awareness

Black Employees Network

SSC’s Black Employees Network (BEN) aims to strengthen the Black community through social, cultural and professional empowerment. The network strives to create safer spaces based on support, knowledge-sharing, and awareness. BEN hopes to create a community that acknowledges Black cultures and addresses various issues Black employees experience. To achieve this, they promote initiatives that focus on Black experiences within and outside the public service.

Persons with Disabilities Network

The Persons with Disabilities Network provides a safe space where members and allies can join together to share thoughts and initiatives. It also strives to shed more light on the issues that people with disabilities face and on ways to improve accessibility and disability related programs within SSC. Learn more about Shared Services Canada’s Accessibility Plan 2022–25.

Indigenous Circle

The Indigenous Circle is a group of dedicated First Nations, Inuit and Métis people and non-Indigenous departmental allies. Members value cross-cultural understanding of the history, contemporary issues, languages and values of Indigenous peoples. The Circle provides advice on the development of key policies, programs and events, as well as guidance to ensure that the rights, interests and perspectives of Indigenous peoples are acknowledged, affirmed and implemented at SSC.

Women’s Network

The Women’s Network works to cultivate a dynamic and diverse workplace for women at SSC. Its mission is to support women employees at SSC and provide them with opportunities for mentorship, networking and professional development, while empowering them to thrive in a supportive, safe and inclusive workplace. The network takes an intersectional approach and works with other networks and advisory committees in SSC and across government.

Pride Network

At SSC, we are proud to show our Pride colours! Together, we are raising awareness of the 2SLGBTQI+ communities to help build a safer and more respectful workplace for all employees, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation.

Official Languages

This official languages community advocates for the importance of maintaining linguistic duality at SSC. The fair representation of both official languages in the department’s everyday affairs reaffirms Canada’s rich cultural heritage.
