Shared Services Canada (SSC) plays a critical role in the daily operations of the Government of Canada. It provides government institutions with secure and reliable information technology (IT) services and tools that enable the effective delivery of government programs and services to Canadians.
As the main provider of IT services to the Government of Canada, SSC also plays a significant cyber security role as part of a multi-departmental effort to defend government networks and keep essential services online.
The Shared Services Canada Act sets out the legal authorities for the Minister responsible for SSC to provide centralized administrative shared services to the Government of Canada through SSC. Orders in Council specify the categories of services SSC must offer, who SSC may serve and which departments must obtain services from SSC.
