Regulatory and Permitting Efficiency for Clean Growth Projects
The Cabinet Directive on Regulation sets out the Government of Canada’s expectations and requirements for the development, management and review of federal regulations. It incorporates the requirements of the Cabinet Directive on Regulatory and Permitting Efficiency for Clean Growth Projects.
As part of its role in supporting ministerial decision-making and oversight, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat will continue to review proposed order‑in‑council and Governor-in-Council regulatory proposals, including those that would facilitate regulatory permitting, so that they can be considered by the Treasury Board.
The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat also regularly updates its guidance for federal regulatory organizations to follow when developing regulations. This guidance can help streamline regulatory processes, including regulations and orders-in-council such as those related to major projects. Guidance has recently been updated to include the Government of Canada’s statutory obligation to consult and cooperate with Indigenous peoples under the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and to help regulatory organizations assess their alignment with the Inuit Nunangat Policy, when applicable.
