Regulatory Initiative: Amending the Public Service Superannuation Regulations, Forward Regulatory Plan 2017-2019
Title or working title of the regulatory initiative
Amending the Public Service Superannuation Regulations
Description of the objective
Issue
The Reserve Force Pension Plan was established by regulations, which came into force on March 1, 2007. The provisions of the Reserve Force Pension Plan are vastly different from those of the three major federal public sector pension plans due to the complex nature of the Reserve Force’s irregular and widely varying patterns of service. The Department of National Defence is responsible for the development, maintenance, and delivery of the Reserve Force Pension Plan, which is governed by Part 1.1 of the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act and by the Reserve Force Pension Plan Regulations. Currently, there are no provisions under the public service pension plan that deal with the treatment of part-time in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Description of the regulation
The Public Service Superannuation Act was amended in 2007 to introduce retroactive authorities to make regulations for the purpose of adapting existing statutory and regulatory provisions in respect of any period of Canadian Reserve Force service.
