To: Functional Heads of Administration, Human Resources, and Financial Services

CC: Chairs and Executive Directors of Northern Federal Regional Councils, Departmental Designated Coordinators for the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive (IPGHD), and Committee members of the National Joint Council (NJC) IPGHD (for information).

Please distribute this notice to employees at your headquarters and regional offices who are involved in the administration of the allowances.

Treasury Board Secretariat was recently made aware that the Vacation Travel Assistance (VTA) airfare rates provided by AMEX Travel Service for the April 2014 flight plans from Inuvik to Edmonton and Norman Wells to Edmonton were incorrect.

The Inuvik rate posted was less than it should have been while the Norman Wells posted rate was more than it should have been. Consequently there is a need for a payment adjustment in one location and recovery of the overpayment in the other.

  • Inuvik April 2014 rates should have been $1979 per adult and $1591 per child.
  • Employees in Inuvik will receive an allowance adjustment of $451 per adult and $379 per child if applicable.
  • Norman Wells 2014 April rates should have been $1600 per adult and $1212 per child.
  • Employees in Norman Wells will undergo a recovery of $623 per adult and $348 per child if applicable.

Recoveries of overpayments are to be carried out in accordance with Section 155(3) of the Financial Administration Act.

Departmental employees or regional staff should direct any questions on this subject to the appropriate departmental corporate official. View the list of Designated Departmental Contacts.
