Subject: Revised Law Management (LC) and Law Practitioner (LP) Job Evaluation Standards

The purpose of this bulletin is to advise departments and agencies of the recently approved updates to the Law Management (LC) and Law Practitioner (LP) job evaluation standards. The revised standards took effect on March 1, 2017.

The changes include editorial modifications to harmonize the language used in the French and English versions of the standards, the addition of newly developed benchmark descriptions, and annexing the currently separate Application Guidelines, resulting in an integrated classification evaluation document.

The updates will ensure the job evaluation standards better reflect current law management and law practitioner work conducted in the core public administration. They will also enable a better understanding and application of the job evaluation standards.

Background

The LC and LP job evaluation standards required technical amendments to facilitate their application.

These amendments are the result of consultations with user departments and an interdepartmental classification working group.

Application

Given that the changes are technical in nature and do not impact the rating plan, departments are not expected to review existing LC and LP work descriptions or update their evaluation rationales. From the effective date forward, departments are to use the revised 2017 LC and LP job evaluation standards to create new positions, review and update or reclassify existing positions in the LC and LP occupational groups.

Inquiries

All questions pertaining to this information bulletin should be directed to your Departmental Corporate Classification, who, if required, will forward questions to the Workforce Organization and Classification group at the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
