| Department of Fisheries and Oceans | Internal reallocation of resources for emergency assistance for east coast commercial fishers affected by severe ice conditions The Treasury Board authorized an allocation of up to $5,000,000 in 2017–18 to enable the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to enter into class grant payments for the Emergency Ice Assistance for East Coast Commercial Fishers program. Extreme ice conditions were preventing fishers in some coastal communities in Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec from commencing their fishing season. This funding helped to mitigate undue economic hardship by providing short-term emergency financial assistance. |
