COVID-19 update for offenders and their families: June 17, 2022
This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.
As we head into the summer, COVID-19 cases in our institutions are on the decline, but COVID-19 continues to be present. Please continue to wear your mask in shared spaces and sanitizing your hands. I also encourage you to get vaccinated and get your COVID-19 booster doses. Please let Health Services know if you don’t feel well.
National Indigenous Peoples Day is June 21 celebrated on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. It is a day to recognize and celebrate the rich heritage and diverse cultures of :
- First Nations
- Inuit, and
- Métis
peoples. Each has their own unique:
- history
- language
- cultural practices, and
- spiritual beliefs
Take time to speak with Indigenous individuals and learn about some of the outstanding achievements and contributions of Indigenous peoples across Canada.
There are two new support numbers for Indigenous peoples that have been added to the National Common Access List. Both services are available in:
- English
- French
- Cree
- Anishnaabemowin (Ojibway), and
- Inuktitut
The Hope for Wellness Help Line has counsellors available to provide Indigenous offenders with access to counselling and crisis intervention services. They are available for those who:
- want to talk
- are distressed
- experiencing strong emotions, or
- may be triggered by painful memories.
Counsellors can also help connect offenders with wellness supports in their community, which can help you build a support system.

Offenders in need of emotional support and/or crisis referral services related to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people can call the MMIWG Support Line for help at:

The National Indian Residential School Crisis Line continues to be available on the National Common Access List to provide support to former residential school students and those affected. You can call the national crisis line anytime at:
