COVID-19 update for offenders and their families: July 15, 2022
This past week, we have seen an increase in the number of new active cases of COVID-19 in some of our institutions. This is a reminder to please continue your efforts to keep our sites as safe as possible:
- wash/sanitize your hands often
- wear your mask when close to others
Please let Health Services know if you aren’t feeling well. Your cooperation is much appreciated.
This July 18th is Nelson Mandela International Day, which honours the legacy of the late South African President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela who promoted:
- human rights
- social justice, and
- democracy
In 2009, the United Nations created Mandela Day, celebrated on his birthday, as a global call to action to bring people together to fight poverty and promote:
- peace
- reconciliation, and
- cultural diversity
It is a day that inspires each one of us to make a difference in our own corner of the world. You can make an impact by:
- respecting each other’s differences, and
- treating everyone with the dignity and value they deserve as a human beings.
In June, I extended the waiver for:
- food
- accommodation fees, and
- telephone
until August 31, 2022. As such, none of these deductions will come off your pay. In my message, I invited you to write on how you are using the money to pursue a self-improvement goal. I am very pleased that so many of you are using it to improve yourselves.
It is in your hands to make a better world for all who live in it. — Nelson Mandela
