Navy science and technology
Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) provides integrated Science & Technology (S&T) advice and technological solutions enabling Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) outcomes and acts as the liaison for NATO and other allied partners.
Enhances the RCN’s ability to overcome future challenges by: planning for diverse outcomes, reviewing fleet composition, developing efficient crew configurations, and evolving training to address new operating environments and warfare capabilities.
Above Water Warfare
Enhances the RCN’s ability to detect and counter above-water threats by improving the performance of above-water sensors and control systems, and by optimizing their overall effectiveness through systems integration.
Enhances the RCN’s ability to detect and counter underwater threats by improving the performance of underwater sensors and control systems and by enhancing diving capabilities.
Maritime Information Warfare
Enhances the effectiveness of the RCN’s command team by improving information management techniques and promoting greater situational awareness through improved intelligence gathering, surveillance analysis, and sensor integration.
Provides continuous improvements to naval platforms through the development and application of advanced materials, improving the interaction between all systems, and refining platform techniques and protocols to make them safer and more effective for crew members.
