Science and technology support to operations
DRDC provides support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in the following areas:
DRDC supports the Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC) to develop enhanced capabilities to conduct the business of CAF operations. DRDC also assists with integrating joint capabilities in conventional and emerging domains, leverages unique science and technology (S&T) partnerships, and assesses the level of DND/CAF contributions in achieving national strategic goals.
DRDC also provides support to Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) for the development of an agile, high-readiness force capable of conducting operations across the spectrum of conflict at home and abroad.
DRDC provides support to the CAF for the conduct of operations in any domestic, continental or international environment where there is a risk or threat of the use or release of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) material, with a focus on new and emerging threats.
DRDC seeks to enhance the CAF's ability to prevent and reduce immediate and long-term health effects from CBRN materials and emerging and infectious diseases.
Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC)
This program provides the Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC) with the technology, information, research and data necessary to enhance its capabilities to conduct CAF business in an array of operational environments, including the Arctic. DRDC informs the DND/CAF on the most effective systems and capabilities available to provide situational awareness in all domains.
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) defence
This program ensures that the CAF has the capabilities to better protect CAF members and to increase the CAF’s readiness to employ CBRN defence capabilities by: improving the CAF’s ability to identify CBRN hazards, communicating information rapidly and efficiently, and by improving CBRN defence training, equipment and infrastructure.
Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) Medical Countermeasures (MedCMs)
This program enhances the DND/CAF’s ability to prevent and reduce immediate and long-term health effects from Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) materials and emerging infectious diseases.
