3rd Canadian Division medals, awards and commendations - January 2025

Every quarter, the Western Sentinel recognizes 3rd Canadian Division members who have received medals, awards and commendations.
On Nov. 5 and 6, 2024, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General and Commander‑in‑Chief of Canada, recognized more than 100 Canadians for their service to the country.
Among those honoured were six members of 3rd Canadian Division.
Two members were presented with the Meritorious Service Medal (Military Division) during a ceremony on Nov. 5.
Brigadier‑General Liam Wade Rutland
Brigadier‑General Rutland led with mission focus while deployed as commander of Joint Task Force IMPACT / Task Force CENTRAL in Kuwait, from May 2022 to May 2023. In a demanding multinational environment, he fostered harmonious relationships with coalition, allied and host-nation partners. Brigadier‑General Rutland’s exceptional efforts in restructuring the task force, executing a robust communications plan and reinvigorating capacity building activities ensured Canada’s reputation in the Middle East.
*This is the second award of a Meritorious Service Medal (Military Division) to Brigadier‑General Liam Wade Rutland.

Captain Ye Hee Ahn
Deployed to Adazi, Latvia, from June to December 2022, Captain, then Major Ahn brilliantly led the National Support Element and acted as framework nation senior national representative. Tasked with managing competing multinational demands with scarce resources in an environment of high international tension, Captain Ahn contributed to mission success through her transformational leadership and uncanny ability to positively influence individuals, despite language and cultural barriers. Captain Ahn’s exceptional efforts and initiatives demonstrated Canada’s best on the international stage.

Four members were invested into the Order of Military Merit during a ceremony on Nov. 6.
Colonel Philippe Robert Bourque, 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters and Signal Squadron, was invested as an Officer of the Order of Military Merit.

Master Warrant Officer Kyle Shan‑Chi Ho, 1 Combat Engineer Regiment, was invested as a Member of the Order of Military Merit.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Angie Marie Morgoch, 4th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group, was invested as a Member of the Order of Military Merit.
