MOSID 00335-02 - Dental Technician - Hygienist (DENT TECH - HYGST)

General Duties:

The general duties and functions of the DENT TECH - HYGST sub-occupation are to provide unassisted dental hygiene care as outlined by their scope of practice, complete dental administrative services, conduct user maintenance on dental equipment and supervise and manage civilian and military dental hygienists.

1. Bend, stoop, crouch, climb and crawl over, under around dental equipment to perform general maintenance, cleaning and disinfecting several times daily. X X
2. Cope with stress of treating patients for periods up to 90 minutes, several times a day, without rest during dental treatments. X X
3. Perform duties in confined spaces. X X
4. Handle hazardous materials and biological waste daily, while wearing personal protective clothing. X X
5. Tolerate dust and vapours generated from hazardous materials. X X X
6. Tolerate exposure to high pitched noise of up to 96 db, anesthetic gases, radiation, chemical disinfectants, airborne/fumes particles produced by dental procedures throughout the day. X X X
7. Stand or sit without rest for periods of 45 to 90 minutes, several times a day, leaning over patients in awkward positions with arms outstretched during dental hygiene treatments. X X X
8. Requires fine manual dexterity and hand-to-eye and foot coordination. X X X
9. Manipulate tools (including miniature components), sharp instruments and needles throughout the day. X X X
