  • It ensures coordination across all federal departments and agencies responsible for national security and the safety of Canadians.
  • The department also works with other levels of government, first responders, community groups, the private sector and other nations.
  • This ensures that the government approach to Canada's safety is highly organized and prepared to confront threats to national security.
  • Funding included in Supplementary Estimates (A) will help PS implement important initiatives on gun and gang violence, drug-impaired driving and cyber security.

  • Public Safety Canada is anticipating to receive Treasury Board authority to increase its appropriations by $31.7M for the following increases:
  • $9.7M resulting from a re-profile of funding from a previous year to take action against gun and gang violence (horizontal item);
  • $9.2M resulting from re-profile of funding from a previous year to build capacity to address drug-impaired driving (horizontal item);
  • $4.9M in funding to advance the New National Cyber Security Strategy;
  • $2.8M in funding for the establishment of a national human trafficking hotline;
  • $2.5M in funding for the Canadian Red Cross response to the 2019 spring flooding across Canada (This item received funding from TB Vote 5 – Government Contingencies);
  • $1.7M in funding for the Passenger Protect Program;

Details Action Against Gun and Gang Violence

  • $9.7M resulting from a re-profile of funding from a previous year to take action against gun and gang violence (horizontal item);
    • Re-profiled funds will ensure that provinces and territories (P/Ts) are able to support law enforcement and intervention initiatives.
    • Police services and other organizations are funded to enhance efforts to prevent, disrupt and combat gun and gang violence, and increase awareness and understanding of related issues.

Drug-impaired Driving

  • $9.2M resulting from re-profile of funding from a previous year to build capacity to address drug-impaired driving (horizontal item);
    • Re-profiled funds will ensure that P/Ts retain access to funding to support Government's commitment related to drug-impaired driving including enforcing laws to punish more severely individuals operating motor vehicles while under the influence of drugs.
    • Funding is for bolstering P/Ts and for augmenting PS' policy and programming for a national contribution plan to build partnerships and support P/Ts.

Advancing the New National Cyber Security Strategy

  • $4.9M in funding to advance the New National Cyber Security Strategy;
    • To implement a plan for security and prosperity and to protect against cyberattacks.
    • Funding is to advance the new National Cyber Security Strategy: Canada's Vision for Security and prosperity in the Digital Age, which aims to 1) ensure secure and resilient Canadian systems, 2) build an innovative and adaptive cyber ecosystem, and 3) support effective leadership and collaboration between different levels of Canadian government, and partners around the world.

Human Trafficking Hotline

  • $2.8M in funding for the establishment of a national human trafficking hotline;
    • The funding is for a national human trafficking hotline, including an online portal and a referral mechanism to social services and law enforcement.
    • By working with P/Ts, this hotline will help protect those vulnerable to being trafficked and enable victims to access the necessary social and law enforcement services they need.

Canadian Red Cross – 2019 Spring Flooding

  • $2.5M in funding for the Canadian Red Cross response to the 2019 spring flooding across Canada (This item received funding from TB Vote 5 – Government Contingencies);
    • To support the Canadian Red Cross for flood recovery efforts in the communities affected by the 2019 spring flooding across the Canada.
    • The funding is for support emergency services including services to people displaced by the floods (for urgent needs such as temporary lodging, clothing, food, and other essential supplies).

Passenger Protect Program

  • $1.7M in funding for the Passenger Protect Program;
    • To support to undertake the implementation phase of the Passenger Protect Program, including the implementation of centralized screening and redress.

Human Trafficking

  • $0.5M in funding for the National Strategy to Combat Human Trafficking (horizontal item); and,
    • The National Strategy consolidates existing federal efforts to address human trafficking both domestically and internationally and introduces an enhanced suite of initiatives that leverage best practices and lessons learned.
    • Five key pillars of the National Strategy are: empowerment, prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnerships.

Employee Benefit Plans

  • $0.4M for Employee Benefit Plans.
