Did you know that Defence Team public service employees who have served a total of 15, 25, 35, 45 and 50 years may be eligible for a Long Service Award (LSA)?

Each employee is valued and demonstrates impressive dedication to the organization, with many serving the Canadian public for over fifteen years.

The LSA Program was established in 2001 to allow management to extend formal recognition to employees who have demonstrated their commitment and dedication to the DND/CAF and the federal public service as a whole. Years of service include combined time spent as a member of the military and as a public service employee. The LSA program is available to all part-time, seasonal and casual federal public service employees who reach their milestone while working at National Defence.

Defence Team members who reach an LSA milestone are entitled to a variety of prizes to commemorate the accomplishment. Employees at the 15-year milestone will receive a gift of their choice, a lapel pin and a Tree Canada certificate (you are now leaving the Government of Canada website). Employees eligible for a 25, 35, 45 and 50 year LSA will receive a gift of their choice, a framed recognition certificate signed by both our Prime Minister and the Deputy Minister of National Defence and a lapel pin. In addition, each recipient will have a tree planted by Tree Canada in their honour and receive a commemorative key chain.

How the program works:

  1. Eligibility dates are automatically calculated using the Leave Service Date in the Human Resources Management System;
  2. L1’s receive a quarterly report identifying all eligible employees for that upcoming period. The Corporate Awards and Recognition Secretariat (CARS) reaches out to all eligible employees by email.
  3. Employees select and submit their award to the LSA team according to the directions in the email. *Note: employees can choose to have their award mailed to their home address or manager/work address as they have a choice to public or private recognition;
  4. Once a request is submitted, the LSA team will process the order and close the request which prompts an email to the employee indicating their order has been placed.

Congratulations to all recipients of this important career milestone! Your dedication and tireless efforts are instrumental in the success of the Defence Team’s achievements. Thank you.
