Recognition of education, training and experience

From: National Defence

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) recognizes that life experiences vary from one person to another. As a serving member or potential recruit, you may be eligible to reduce your time in training based on your current:

It’s the CAF’s policy to recognize previous training, education and/or experience. This includes any experience gained inside or outside of the CAF.

The CAF uses the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process to evaluate any previous training and education. The assessment determines if your experience is equivalent to the CAF’s courses and learning outcomes. This would allow you to reduce or eliminate any education/training required to progress within your military occupation.

Upon enrolment in the CAF or transfer (Component Transfer or Voluntary Military Occupation Transfer), you could also receive incentives for previously acquired education, vocational or technical qualifications and experience that would be considered of value toward the military occupation you are applying for.

The assessment also recognizes qualifications that might be useful for future CAF activities (foreign language training, or other specialty skills).
