External Advisory Council on Sexual Misconduct
The External Advisory Council on Sexual Misconduct (EAC) was founded by the Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre (SMSRC) in 2019 to provide independent, third-party advice to the SMSRC on its response and initiatives to address sexual misconduct in the Department of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).
Each EAC member brings relevant expertise, experiences and lessons learned. Members include experts from academia, not-for-profit and private sectors, Veterans Affairs Canada, and former Defence Team members. Members also included those who have volunteered based on their willingness to share their experiences of sexual misconduct while serving in the Defence Team.
The SMSRC selects members according to their experience, knowledge and ability to advise on a variety of aspects of sexual misconduct such as:
- gender-based violence
- military culture and CAF service realities
- trauma-informed approaches
- culturally humble frameworks
- 2SLGBTQI+ perspectives
- advocacy, prevention and policy
- victim and survivor support services
- lived experience in the DND/CAF
- military and civilian justice systems
