About the platform

The Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre (SMSRC) and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) have launched an online peer support discussion platform for current and former Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and DND public service employees who experienced sexual misconduct, as well as their families, as part of the Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Peer Support Program. This initiative is a first step in one of many elements that emerged from community consultations.

About Togetherall

The online peer support discussion platform is hosted by a third-party company called Togetherall, which offers:

The platform is completely anonymous so members can express themselves freely and openly. Professionally trained clinicians, also called Wall Guides, monitor the discussions to ensure the safety and anonymity of all members. In addition to a discussion platform for those who have experienced military sexual trauma and their families, a specific group dedicated only for persons affected by MST is available and offers a safe and virtual community where they can talk with others of similar lived experiences. Furthermore, Togetherall provides a library of mental health resources and self-paced research driven courses which contribute to overall well-being and recovery.

Who can join

Although the MST Peer Support Program is being developed and designed for current and former CAF members who experienced sexual misconduct, Togetherall is available to all current and former CAF members, DND public service employees as well as their family members aged 16 and older.

Before you register

The platform Togetherall encourages everyone to be open about what is on their mind, learn more about themselves and work on their mental health anonymously, in a supportive peer-based environment. By joining the platform, you agree to specific Member Terms which include the house rules.

Respecting the Members Terms ensure that Togetherall works well for the entire community including yourself.

It is important to remember that as a member, you are taking sole responsibility for your actions and behaviour on the platform.

How to register

To join the online peer support discussion platform, we invite you to consult the Step-By-Step Guide provided by Togetherall. You may register through the button below. You will need to provide some basic information, including your email address, phone number, postal code and date of birth for eligibility, before you are sent an email to activate your account. This is the same registration process for all new members. Once registered, use your unique username and password to view the platform and related resources.

Togetherall’s collection of personal information is limited to individuals’ email address, postal code, date of birth, and phone number. They do not share any of that information with the SMSRC, DND/CAF nor VAC. If a member requests to have their account and personal information deleted, all their registration data is deleted from Togetherall’s records.

However, if a user has had a risk escalated to one of the Togetherall clinicians, the user’s registration information and clinical team notes are all retained for a period of 3 years. The personal information will not be used to contact the user.

How to join the Military Sexual Trauma community

At the request of the community, a Military Sexual Trauma community was created to allow those affected by sexual misconduct to share and discuss together in one place. In order to join this community, please note that you must first have completed the registration process on Togetherall’s online peer support platform. Once completed, please follow the steps below:

  1. In the top menu bar, go to “Courses”
  2. Click on the “MST Community” course tile
  3. After reading the first page of content, click on “Begin Course”
  4. At the bottom of the second page, click on “Go To Course Talkabout”

After completing these steps, you will now be a member of the Military Sexual Trauma community, allowing you to post and chat with other members in the group.
