Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre’s Restorative Engagement Program updates – Fall 2024

Greetings,

We recognize and acknowledge the harmful impact of sexual misconduct, and we understand that hearing from the Restorative Engagement (RE) program can bring up difficult feelings. If you require immediate support, please contact the Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre (SMSRC)’s 24/7 line at 1-844-750-1648.

This update contains important information about how to confirm your interest in participating in RE. It also includes the same information shared this summer along with clarifications to the participation options available and other SMSRC programs and services.

Invitation to participate in RE

We have been reaching out to class members who have expressed interest in knowing more about the program. Confirming your interest and informing us that you wish to participate in RE is an important and necessary step. It lets us know how many class members plan to take part in the program. Once you confirm, we will add your name to our list of future participants. At this moment, all our restorative practitioners are assigned to class members. This means that as soon as practitioners become available, we will be assigning them to new participants. We cannot confirm when you will be contacted. You can choose to withdraw from the program at any time, should you change your mind.

If you want to participate in the Restorative Engagement Program, please let us know by filling out the intake form, emailing RE-DR@forces.gc.ca or by calling 1-844-750-1648 before September 2025 so that we may add you to the list of participants to be assigned a restorative practitioner as soon as possible. If we do not hear from you by September 2025, we will close your file with the program. The program is expected to conclude early 2026.

If you are still unsure and would like more information, please email or call us.

Participation options for class members

You can choose one of the following Restorative Engagement options to share your experiences, impacts and insights related to sexual misconduct in the DND/CAF.

Individually

In a group

Executive Leadership Circle Process

At the end of participation in the Restorative Engagement program, individuals will be given the opportunity to express their interest in participating in the Executive Leadership Circle Process. Through this process, participants will share learnings and insights around predetermined themes with Defence representatives at the General and Flag Officer ranks, and EX-02 and above level, facilitated by Restorative Practitioners.

After completing participation in the Restorative Engagement program, individuals who have expressed interest may be invited to the Executive Leadership Circle Process. There will be a limited number of Executive Leadership Circle processes between now and the end of the program, so participation is not guaranteed.

Class members waiting to participate

If you wish to participate in other SMSRC programs and activities while you wait to be assigned to a practitioner, there are a few options available to you:
