Annex A – Outline of procedure followed for Investitures at Rideau Hall or La Citadelle, Québec City
- The following directions/guidance apply to investitures at Rideau Hall. A similar sequence, adapted as required, is used at La Citadelle, Québec City or at other investiture venues.
- Recipients make their own way to Rideau Hall where parking is available.
- Those attending the investiture will arrive at the front entrance of Rideau Hall and will be shown to the cloakroom. Recipients will then be directed to the Reception Room and will be briefed on the ceremony. Very Important People (VIP)s will be brought to their respective seats in the investiture room by Rideau Hall staff. Guests will be directed to their seats in the investiture room.
- The arrival of recipients will be announced and all present in the investiture room will remain standing.
- The arrival of the GG will be announced.
- Recipients and guests will be asked to be seated.
- If a chaplain is present, they will say an invocation (for Order of Military Merit investitures only).
- The GG will offer remarks.
- Honours are presented in decreasing order of precedence, starting with the highest, and the recipients of each specific honour are called in alphabetical order regardless of their rank or status. Those receiving a bar to a decoration are called ahead of those receiving the decoration for the first time.
- The name of each recipient will be announced in turn. As each name is called, the individual will advance up the centre aisle at a normal walking pace and bow to the GG. In the case of decorations, a citation will be read while the recipient is standing to the right of the CDS and facing the seated recipients and guests.
- After receiving the insignia and posing for photographs (with the GG and CDS), the person invested will step back, bow again to the GG and return to their seat.
- The CDS will offer remarks. (military investitures only).
- On completion of speeches, the national anthem will be played and sung.
- The GG will then withdraw.
- Recipients will leave the room for an official group photo.
- VIPs and guests will be directed to another room for a reception where they will be joined by the recipients.
- On departure, an insignia case must be collected from the control table in the Front foyer. The scroll is mailed to the recipients directly by Rideau Hall.
NOTE
Personal photographs are not permitted during the ceremony itself. A few weeks following the event, Rideau Hall will forward each recipient an email link to their online photo gallery to view all photographs taken during the ceremony. These pictures will be available for a period of time from the date of the investiture/ceremony.
