Annex D – Other ceremonies

  1. On certain occasions, where the numbers justify it, the Directorate of Honours and Recognition (DH&R) may organize ceremonies hosted by the CDS during which Mention in Dispatches (MID) insignia and various departmental awards will be presented. These ceremonies may take place anywhere in the country, usually at military facilities, where there is the highest concentration of recipients. The sequence of events closely mirrors that followed for ceremonies at Rideau Hall, described at Annex C. As the MID is a national honour, recipients residing within Canada are entitled to travel expenses for themselves and one primary guest. The recipients of departmental awards are not entitled to expenses and therefore presentations will be limited to local recipients. When the numbers do not justify the organization of such events, the CDS will make the presentations as part of his normal travels (as arranged by the Office of the CDS) or will delegate the presentation to appropriate commanders.
