Assistance to law enforcement operations
The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) regularly runs operations that help police and other law- enforcement partners to stop criminal activity. The operations may target activities that involve illegal drugs, wild fish stocks, human trafficking or other crime.
Support to law-enforcement is a CAF function under Canada’s National Defence Act. These partners may ask for help because of the CAF’s unique equipment and skills. Missions may involve CAF ships, aircraft or vehicles as well as their crews. They may take place in Canada or in other parts of the globe.
These operations are linked through an agreement between the two partners. CAF assets and crews on operations come under the Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC).
