Montréal Pride and the LGBTQ2 community can count on Government of Canada support

August 20, 2017 – Montréal, Quebec – Canadian Heritage and Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
As the parade draws near, along with the final activities that will close 11 days of festivities that have once again rocked Montréal, the Government of Canada announced that four financial contributions totalling $463,300 have been granted to the Montréal Pride non-profit organization.
CED has awarded $100,000 in financial assistance, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, through the Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP). The support will help the organization market the festival abroad by promoting it during events targeting the LGTBQ2 community, placing ads, taking part in trade shows and conducting a festival attendance and economic impact study.
Canadian Heritage has provided three non-repayable funding packages totalling $363,300. The Canada 150 Fund has awarded $250,000; the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program has granted a contribution of $93,300; and the Inter-Action: Multiculturalism Funding Program has invested $20,000. The funding has helped Montréal Pride present the first edition of Canada Pride, host a greater number of local artists, support the numerous volunteers and organize the International Conference on Sexual Diversity & Gender Plurality in the Francophonie, which was held on August 18.

The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage – Local Festivals component provides funding to local groups for recurring festivals that present the work of local artists, artisans or heritage performers.
The Inter-Action: Multiculturalism Funding Program supports the socio-economic integration of individuals and communities and helps them to contribute to building an integrated, socially cohesive society.
CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
