Employment Equity Employers’ Forum

Overview

In 2025, the Labour Program is introducing the Employment Equity Employers' Forum (EEEF) which will replace the Employment Equity Achievement Awards.

The event brings federally regulated private-sector employers and federal contractors together to share best practices, explore innovative ideas, and discuss the latest strategies for advancing employment equity. The Forum will focus on ensuring equitable opportunities for the 4 designated groups under the Employment Equity Act:

  • women
  • Indigenous peoplesFootnote 1
  • persons with disabilities
  • members of visible minorities

The Forum will be held every 2 years in a different Canadian city.

Registration

Employers subject to the Legislated Employment Equity Program (LEEP) or the Federal Contractors Program (FCP) can attend. The Labour Program will send an email notification to all active LEEP and FCP employers inviting them to participate.

Employment Equity Achievement Awards

Established in 2016, the Employment Equity Achievement Awards was an annual in-person event that recognized federally regulated private-sector employers, federal contractors, and individual business leaders for their achievements in advancing employment equity and creating inclusive workplaces for the 4 designated groups under the Employment Equity Act.

This event also gave an opportunity for participants to strengthen their networks and share best practices and lessons learned.

Over the years, the Minister of Labour distributed close to 130 awards across the following categories:

  • 37 Sector Distinction Awards
  • 43 Outstanding Commitment Awards
  • 20 Innovation Awards
  • 11 Employment Equity Champion Awards
  • 12 Improved Representation Awards (2016 only)
  • 9 Indigenous Reconciliation Awards (introduced in 2023)

The last event took place in 2024.
