Error in Old Age Security and Guaranteed Income Supplement Auto Enrollment Letters

News release

Notice

February 27, 2019        Gatineau, Quebec        Employment and Social Development Canada

Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) recently identified a technical issue with the production of a batch of Old Age Security (OAS) and Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) entitlement letters sent to those qualifying for the first time. The monthly benefit amounts for both OAS and GIS, on the letters, were incorrectly stated. The incorrect letter will not have an impact on recipients of OAS and GIS and they will still receive the correct payment.

We encourage those with questions regarding recently received GIS or OAS entitlement letters to contact Service Canada at 1-800-277-9914. The error applies to letters dated February 10th, 2019 for March payments.

ESDC takes situations such as these very seriously and is taking measures to ensure this issue does not reoccur. Service Canada will be sending correction letters to the individuals affected by this error.
