Government of Canada invests in projects that support seniors in Nova Scotia

Through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), the Government of Canada continues to meet the needs of older Canadians by supporting projects that help reduce social isolation and keep seniors active and informed in their communities.

On March 8, 2019, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Seniors, announced an investment of over $1.3 million in funding through NSHP for 74 community-based projects across Nova Scotia in 2019. The Minister made the announcement while visiting the following NHSP recipient organizations:

Women’s Place Resource Centre - $25,000

Seniors involved with the Women’s Place Resource Centre will deliver workshops to help senior women deal with a number of life’s stressful events, such as divorce, separation, depression and the return of adult children to the family home.

Mountain Lea Lodge & Meadows Community - $1,500

Seniors involved with Mountain Lea Lodge & Meadows Community will hire a videographer to create a video about the transition from home to long-term care in order to explain the process and the supports available to seniors and their families.

Friends of the Sagewood Resident Society - $10,650

Seniors involved with the Friends of the Sagewood Resident Society will take part in a variety of cultural day trips that engage seniors and promote social participation in their communities.
