“The Meteorological Service of Canada has served Canadians for 150 years. Ensuring that our weather information remains relevant is one of my greatest motivations.”

Meet Joanne St-Cœur.

Joanne St-Cœur is the Director, Prediction Services Operations–Centre for the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC). This is her dream job, because it allows her to combine her educational and professional interests. Joanne received a Bachelor of Science from Université de Moncton and a certificate in Atmospheric Sciences from Université du Québec à Montréal, and completed a master’s degree in Management at the University of Ottawa.

Throughout her 29-year career with Environment and Climate Change Canada, Joanne has witnessed the evolution of radars, models, satellites, and other data visualization tools. She contributed to the implementation of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) system at the MSC and the improvement of various meteorological products. Joanne also helped to introduce tornado alerts across a variety of public channels such as Twitter and Wi-Fi networks.

Joanne likes to update MSC work and services. She and her employees ensure that high-quality weather services are accessible to Canadians, including civil aviation in Eastern Canada and other clients. For Joanne, the favourite part of her job is interacting with the users who rely on meteorological products every day.
