Science Horizons Youth Internship Program

Description of Program

The Science Horizons Youth Internship Program falls under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS). YESS is a horizontal initiative, led by Employment and Social Development Canada, involving twelve federal departments and agencies. The Initiative is the Government of Canada’s commitment to help young people, particularly those facing barriers to employment, get the information and gain the skills, work experiences and abilities they need to make a successful transition into the labour market.

Why was a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) completed

It was determined that the Science Horizons Youth Internship Program required a PIA because it uses personal information as part of a decision‐making process that directly affects the individual.

This PIA focused on Environment and Climate Change Canada’s handling of personal information involved in the Science Horizons Youth Internship Program's business processes.

As part of completing PIA recommendations, the Science Horizons Youth Internship Program has revised and clarified language in the application and consent form, as well sought advice from Information Management advisors to ensure proper retention schedules for personal information.
