Background
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is seeking comments on a proposed authorization under the Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations (MDMER) for the disposal of mine waste in fish-frequented water bodies at the Scully Mine site.
- Tacora Resources Inc. (the Proponent) is proposing to increase the tailings capacity of the Scully Mine to extend the operational life of the mine. The mine is located two kilometers northeast of the town of Wabush, in Newfoundland and Labrador
- If approved, Schedule 2 of the MDMER would be amended to list these water bodies as “Tailings Impoundment Areas” for the Scully Mine
