Outcomes of CoP16
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) held its 16th Conference of the Parties (CoP16) in March 3-14, 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Canadian delegation was led by Environment Canada and included representatives from Environment Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, the Government of Nunavut, the Government of the Northwest Territories, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Nunavut Tunngavit Inc., Nunatsiavut Government, Torngat Wildlife Management Board, and the Fur Institute of Canada who contributed expertise on species for which they have expertise.
The Canadian positions on species proposals and working documents were developed through consultation with government agencies and stakeholders. Species proposals were carefully reviewed and the information was weighed against the CITES listing criteria.
