Turkey Lakes tree harvesting impacts project: chapter 5
Uncut Control - Compartment 42
This forest is typical of upland sites in the Algoma Section of the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence Forest Region. Stands are dominated by sugar maple (90%), other hardwoods (9% - primarily yellow birch), and conifers (1%). This is an uneven-aged, over-mature forest stressed by the northerly climate. The area is relatively undisturbed, having had a light partial cut for yellow birch in mid-1950s. The stands are of generally poor timber quality.
