National pharmacare bilateral agreements

On October 10, 2024, the Pharmacare Act received Royal Assent and came into force. One of the act's commitments is for us to work with provinces and territories to make a range of contraception and diabetes medications free.

If you're covered by national pharmacare, those products will be available for free or at low cost at the pharmacy counter and you won't need to coordinate benefits with private insurance plans. Other fees, such as prescribing fees or delivery fees, may still apply.

We're also setting up a diabetes device fund to help you access the supplies you need to manage and monitor your diabetes and administer your medication.

In Budget 2024, we announced $1.5 billion over 5 years to support the launch of national pharmacare and coverage for contraception and diabetes medications.
