The public was invited to provide comments on the proposed updates to the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist: Prohibited and restricted ingredients.

Who was the focus of this consultation

  • general public
  • interested stakeholders

Key questions for discussion

The Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist is one of the ways Health Canada informs companies and people in Canada about substances that when used in a cosmetic may result in the product:

  • contravening the Food and Drugs Act or the Cosmetic Regulations
  • being regulated as something other than a cosmetic

Proposed updates to the Hotlist are based on evidence obtained by a review of information, including:

  • recognized scientific journals
  • opinions and decisions made by national and international experts

We will respond to comments received and will then publish the revised Hotlist after we have completed our review. We will also send a notice to those on our cosmetics mailing list and who have previously submitted a cosmetic notification form.
