Summary
The Consumer Product Safety Program (CPSP) administers and enforces the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and its regulations
The purpose of this Compliance Verification (CV) project was to verify industry’s compliance of household chemical products with the requirements of the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 (CCCR, 2001).
For this project, the CPSP carried out a market survey to determine the presence of establishments selling, importing, or manufacturing household chemical products in Canada. Compliance of select household chemical products (from that survey) was determined through an evaluation process where Health Canada inspectors visited establishments both online and in-person and conducted a review of the establishment records. Compliance with the requirements listed under the Regulations was verified by Health Canada inspectors at the time of inspection.
Over the course of the 2024-2025 fiscal year, 55 different products were evaluated for compliance with their CCCR, 2001 documentation, where 27 out of the 55 samples were imported products. The evaluation resulted in 7 recalls, 4 stop sales, 2 stop distributions and 18 commitments to address non-compliance. There were 24 instances where no corrective action was required.
