The purpose of this document is to notify registrants, pesticide regulatory officials and the Canadian public of Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency's (PMRA) re evaluation initiation schedule for 2010-2013.
Over time, changes in science, policy and pesticide use practices will occur. The Pest Control Products Act requires the PMRA to initiate re-evaluations for each registered pesticide on a 15-year cycle, based on the date of either its initial registration or the most recent major decision affecting the registration. Re-evaluation is the review of registered-pesticide active ingredients and their end-use products on the basis of updated data and information to determine whether, and under what conditions, their continued registration is acceptable. The PMRA considers potential risks as well as the value of pesticide products to ensure they continue to meet modern standards established to protect human health and the environment. The available information regarding each pesticide is assessed and any necessary risk-management measures to further protect human health and the environment are proposed in a public consultation document before a final decision is reached. For more information on the PMRA's new approach to re-evaluation, please refer to Re-evaluation Note REV2010-18, Re-evaluation Program.
Table 1 presents the PMRA's re-evaluation initiation schedule for 2010-2013. Registrants who plan to discontinue products or uses of these actives are asked to inform the PMRA's Re-evaluation Management Directorate as soon as possible. Note that this schedule may change in response to emerging issues that require priority action.
