Physical security measures for cannabis licences: Micro-cultivation, nursery, micro-processing
Physical security measures for micro-cultivation, nursery and micro-processing licences.
On this page
You must meet the physical security requirements in section 74 of the Cannabis Regulations (the Regulations).
If you have a micro-class or nursery licence and a sale for medical purposes with possession of cannabis licence at your site, your site will need to meet the physical security requirements for both licences. A sale for medical purposes with possession of cannabis.
Head of security
The head of security is responsible for the compliance to the physical security requirements of your licence. They're also responsible for the organizational security plan.
Measures by area
You must implement your physical security measures in a way that they work together to secure the site and prevent unauthorized access. This applies to all areas within the defined physical barrier.
Physical security requirements
- Site
- Designed to prevent unauthorized access
- Surrounded by a physical barrier
- Storage areas
- Surrounded by a physical barrier
- Access restricted to those who are required to be present
Site
You need to design your site in a way that prevents unauthorized access.
Restricted access measures control who has access to your site. Only specific people are meant to have access to your site.
A physical barrier needs to surround your site. Your site's physical barrier can be a fence, the building envelope, or a shared wall with an adjacent area which is owned by someone else.

Storage areas
A physical barrier needs to surround your storage areas. It must prevent unauthorized access. You must restrict access to these areas.

Examples of compliant sites
The following figures are only examples of how you can implement physical security measures at a site. There are many ways to meet the requirements. You don't need to copy these examples.
Figure 1: Micro-cultivation site
Figure 1 is an example of a compliant micro-cultivation site. The building's envelope acts as the physical barrier of the site.
