Environmental Assessment Units 1 and 2
The Environmental Assessment Unit 1 of the New Substances Assessment and Control Bureau was established to conduct assessments of the potential environmental and health risk to the general population associated with environmental exposure to new substances in Food and Drugs Act (F&DA) products such as human drugs, biologics, veterinary drugs, cosmetics, novel foods, food additives, natural health products and medical devices. These environmental assessments are undertaken in accordance with the New Substances Notification Regulations (NSNR) under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999).
The Environmental Assessment Unit 2 is responsible for the management of the In Commerce List which is a list of substances which were in products regulated under the Food and Drugs Act and that were in Canadian commerce between 01 January 1987 and 13 September 2001. This list has subsequently been updated and is known as the revised In Commerce List.
