Natural Health Product Licensing Bulletin

The Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD) is the regulating authority for non-prescription drugs and natural health products (NHPs) in Canada. This web page is specific for NHP product licensing.

All NHPs require a product licence with a natural product number (NPN) before being sold in Canada. A product with an NPN means that it has been authorized for sale in Canada and is safe and effective when used according to the instructions on the label. This requirement is set out in the Natural Health Products Regulations (NHPR).

To ensure the natural health product industry is familiar with the regulatory requirements of the NHPR, the NNHPD provides guidance on product licensing for NHPs. Another way we do this is by sending out NHP Product Licensing Bulletins regularly to our stakeholders which announce product licensing changes or provide reminders of regulatory obligations.

The table below lists the NHP Product Licensing Bulletins that have been sent out to date.

The NNHPD will notify you by email when there is a new NHP Product Licensing Bulletin.

For inquiries about NHP product licensing, please email us at nnhpd-dpsnso@hc-sc.gc.ca.
