Program delivery update: New permit question for refugee claimants

This section contains policy, procedures and guidance used by IRCC staff. It is posted on the department’s website as a courtesy to stakeholders.

October 30, 2018

An additional question has been added to the “Schedule 12” form [IMM 0008], and a new “Apply For” field has been added to the Global Case Management System (GCMS).

If a claimant requests a work or study permit on the “Schedule 12” form, the officer should indicate this in the “Apply For” field. For cases where the claimant is currently not eligible for a work or study permit (for example, a citizen of a designated country of origin or a claimant who is ineligible under the Safe Third Country Agreement) or has completed the former version of the “Schedule 12” form, the officer should select “None” in GCMS. If the claimant is requesting a permit, populating this field appropriately allows the permit to be issued and mailed, without the need to complete an additional application form, provided the medical results are received and recorded in GCMS.

References to data entry into the Field Operations Support System have been removed.
