The instructions have been updated to include up-to-date information regarding the collection of traveller data as well as more information on the use of the system for all lines of business.
Since February 2019, IRCC officers have been able to use the Entry/Exit tab in the Global Case Management System (GCMS) to query the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) system for entry and exit information on travellers for the purpose of validating presence in and out of Canada. It can also be used to verify whether the traveller previously overstayed their allowable time of stay in Canada.
Outstanding regulations
With the passing of Bill C‑21, An Act to amend the Customs Act, data on all travellers (including Canadian and United States citizens) has begun to accumulate as of July 11, 2019 for travel by land. Regulatory amendments for exits by air are expected to come into force in June 2020.
