The Temporary public policy to facilitate continued access to open work permits and study permits for foreign nationals in Canada who arrived under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel Measures has been extended for another year. Under these extended measures, Ukrainians and their family members who arrived in Canada on or before March 31, 2024, under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) measures and who hold valid temporary resident status may apply until March 31, 2026 for a new open work permit, a renewal of a current open work permit, or for a new study permit, subject to standard fees.
Effective December 31, 2024, the Temporary public policy for foreign nationals who applied under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel measures and whose applications were pending as of February 4, 2024 - Extension has expired.
All remaining applications which were submitted under the CUAET measures on or before July 15, 2023 will be processed to completion. Approved CUAET visa holders who are overseas may still travel to Canada at any point during the validity of their visa, but will do so as regular temporary resident visa holders. Border services officers will determine their authorized length of stay.
Ukrainians and their family members who were provisionally approved for a work permit with their CUAET visa are entitled to receive their open work permit upon arrival at the port of entry, as long as their Letter of Introduction remains valid.
