As the situation in Iran remains unstable, we continue to support Iranians who are already in Canada.
Since 2023, special measures have provided temporary support to eligible Iranians already here. In February 2026, we introduced measures to continue supporting eligible Iranians who are already contributing to Canadian communities and the labour market.
These measures allow eligible Iranian temporary residents to extend their work permits, providing them with continued access to employment in Canada.
These measures expire March 31, 2027, and standard processing fees apply.
Those looking to extend their stay as a visitor or to extend their study permit can apply under regular IRCC processes.
Regime Officials
As a result of the Minister of Public Safety's designation of Iran as a regime that engages or has engaged in terrorism and gross or systematic human rights violations, Iranian senior officials are considered inadmissible to Canada.
Current and former senior Iranian officials who served at any time since June 23, 2003, may be banned from entering Canada, and those who are in Canada may be investigated and removed.
Applications for visas from senior officials determined to be inadmissible to Canada would be refused.
