How to get a police certificate – Brazil
If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.
Name of the document you need
Certidão de Antecedentes Criminais, issued by the Brazilian Federal Police
Police certificates and IRCC requirements
You must provide a police certificate when you apply for permanent residence in Canada.
How to apply
If you have Brazilian ID cards (Cédula de Identidade de Estrangeiro [CIE] and Cadastro de Pessoa Fisica [CPF]), you must contact the Brazilian Federal Police to obtain a Certidão de Antecedentes Criminais. Visit the Brazilian Federal Police website (in Portuguese only) for instructions and to apply online.
If you do not have Brazilian ID cards (Cédula de Identidade de Estrangeiro [CIE] and Cadastro de Pessoa Fisica [CPF]), you will not be able to request a certificate online. You should apply in person at your nearest Polícia federal office. Visit the Polícia federal website (in Portuguese only) for a complete list of offices.
Special considerations
Brazilian state certificates are no longer accepted. Only national certificates issued by the Brazilian Federal Police are accepted.
