How to Get a Police Certificate - Ethiopia
If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.
Do I need to provide a Police Certificate with my Application for Permanent Residence? No. Citizenship and Immigration Canada will send you a letter requesting a police certificate after you send your Application for Permanent Residence. You must bring that letter when you apply for a Police Certificate.

How to get a Police Certificate
If you are a citizen of Ethiopia
If you live in Ethiopia:
You should apply in person at the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission Forensic Investigation Department (see Special notes and considerations for complete address). You must allow your fingerprints to be taken and you must also bring:
- A copy of your national identity card
- A copy of your passport
- Two passport-size photographs
- The letter from the Canadian visa office requesting the certificate
- Applicable fees
If you live outside of Ethiopia:
You should apply by sending your documents to the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission Forensic Investigation Department (see Special notes and considerations for complete address). You may also ask a representative to submit the request in person on your behalf (he or she must bring proof of legal representation). You must bring:
- An original set of fingerprints taken by the police authority of where you live
- A copy of your passport
- Two passport-size photographs
- The letter from the Canadian visa office requesting the certificate
- Applicable fees
If you are not a citizen of Ethiopia
If you live in Ethiopia:
