How to get a police certificate – Gambia
If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

You must provide a police certificate when you apply for:
- permanent residence
- citizenship
- some temporary residence programs
Check your application package or instructions for details.
How to apply
Apply at the Justice department or at The Gambia Police Force. You will need to present your national identity card or passport. A birth certificate might be requested as proof of identity.
If you are abroad, you can also apply to a Gambian Consulate or Embassy. You must have your Certificate of Character legalized by the Gambian Consulate or Embassy, which involves an additional procedure to certify the authenticity of the document.
