How to get a police certificate – Haïti

If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

Do I need to provide a police certificate with my application for permanent residence? No. If we need a police certificate, we’ll send you a letter requesting one after you send your application for permanent residence. You must bring that letter when you apply for a police certificate.

If you have been asked to provide a police certificate for this country, follow the instructions below.

Name of document to get:

  • Police certificate, issued by the Direction centrale de la police judiciaire d'Haïti

If you live in Haïti

You must apply in person at the Direction centrale de la police judiciaire d'Haïti (DCPJ) in Port-au-Prince. See Special notes and considerations for complete address.

Submit the following documents in person:

  • A letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada stating that you must get a Haitian police certificate
  • Receipt for the applicable fees that you paid at the Direction générale des impôts
  • Four copies of a recent identification photograph
  • Two separate identification documents with your picture (e.g. passport, electoral card, etc.)
  • Your fingerprints (taken at the DCPJ)

If you live outside of Haïti

You should send your documents to a friend or family member in Haïti who can apply on your behalf. They must go to the Direction centrale de la police judiciaire d'Haïti (DCPJ) in Port-au-Prince. See Special notes and considerations for complete address.

Your representative must bring:

  • A letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada stating that you must get a Haitian police certificate
  • Four copies of a recent identification photograph
  • A copy of the first page of your passport (page with name and passport number)
  • A copy of your birth certificate (“Acte de naissance”, if you were born in Haïti)
  • Your fingerprints
    • Fingerprints must be taken at a police station in your place of residence (subject to local rules and procedures) or at your nearest Haitian consulate.

Special notes and considerations

Police certificates issued by regional police offices such as « certificats de bonne vie et mœurs » and « certificats de tribunaux de première instance » are not acceptable.

  • a photocopy of your national identity card that shows your new NIF
  • a document from Direction Centrale de la Police Judicaire
