How to get a Police Certificate
If you are a citizen of Malta
If you live in Malta:
You should apply in person at the Criminal Records Office of your local police district or at the Secretariat, Police Headquarters, in Floriana (see Special notes and considerations for complete address).
If you live outside of Malta:
- A formal signed request that may be sent by E-Mail, Fax, or normal post (see Special notes and considerations)
- Copy of a valid passport page with bearer’s signature, personal details and photo
- Father's full name and mother's maiden and married names
- Addresses abroad and in Malta (if applicable)
- Date and place of birth
- Applicable fees payable to the Commissioner of Police.
To avoid complications in the fee payment, it would be preferable to delegate a friend or relative in Malta to pay the fee and collect the certificate on your behalf. In this case, a formal and signed authorization is also required. We do not encourage sending foreign cheques since this practice will involve unknown bank charges.
Payment can also be made by international money transfer through Western Union or MoneyGram at the following exchange agencies or at any Western Union Agency. This is the most effective procedure. You can call the Secretariat Office at 00356 2294 2342 or 00356 2294 2243 for the name of the contact.
