How to obtain a police certificate – Sweden

If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

Name of document(s) to get: Form RPS 442.4 “Request for extract from the criminal records registry for purposes in another country”

You should apply by writing to the Rikspolisstyrelsen. You may submit the application form (available to download from the Polisen website) and supporting documents either by mail or as scanned documents by e-mail (see Special notes and considerations for website and complete address).

If you live outside of Sweden:

You should apply by writing to the Rikspolisstyrelsen. You may submit the application form (available to download from the Polisen website) and supporting documents either by mail or as scanned documents by e-mail (see Special notes and considerations for website and complete address).

Information and documents you need:

  • Copy of your Population Registration Certificate “Personbevi” or a copy of your passport
  • Applicable fees (Fees vary depending on if your mailing address is in Sweden, in the rest of Europe, or outside Europe, and whether you want the document sent to you by ordinary mail, registered mail or express mail)
