How to get a police certificate – Trinidad and Tobago
If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

You must provide a police certificate when you apply for:
- permanent residence
- citizenship
- some temporary residence programs

How to apply
If you are a Trinidad and Tobago citizen
Apply online on the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service website:
- While completing the Certificate of Character Request Form, applicants will be able to choose the date of their appointment and the preferred police station they wish to visit to have their fingerprints taken.
- Applicants will receive a receipt with a unique tracking number upon submitting the online request.
- The applicant is responsible for printing their own application form on legal size paper and bringing it to the police station on the day of their appointment.
- The Certificate of Character processing fee is TT$50, which is to be paid at the police station on the day of the appointment.
If you are not a Trinidad and Tobago citizen
Foreign residents will be required to follow these steps:
- Have their fingerprints recorded at a police station in whatever country they reside.
- If the fingerprints are not taken in a police station, have the fingerprint slip certified by an authorized notary public and have the notary public’s stamp affixed.
- Provide a copy of their passport showing the applicant ’s photograph, passport number, date of birth and signature.
- Include a money order equivalent to fifty TT dollars (TT$50.00) and the cost of return postage.

The Office of the Senior Superintendent CID/CRO will send the completed Certificate of Character back to the original sender by registered mail within three (3) days of receiving the documents.
