Before you go, you need to make an appointment to give your biometrics.

You have 30 days to give your biometrics from the time you get your biometric instruction letter (BIL).
- Read the Important Information section of your BIL for more information.
To avoid delays, book as soon as you receive your BIL.
Appointments are free to book.

If you need a biometrics appointment extension

If your VAC or ASC is open but you can’t give biometrics, use the web form to tell us why you need more time.

Make sure you provide details about your situation.

For example, if you weren’t able to get an appointment by the deadline in your biometrics instruction letter

Use the BIL you received as part of your current application

You must use the BIL that was issued for your current application.

If you try to give your biometrics with a BIL from a previous application

there may be delays in the processing of your current application or
your current application may be refused

If your application was refused because you didn’t give biometrics

Once your application has been refused, do not try to give your biometrics.

You must first re-apply, pay the associated fees, including the biometrics fee and wait for your BIL before you book an appointment to give your biometrics.

You can’t enter an ASC facility if any of the following apply:

you have any symptom of COVID-19, including
- recently developed cough
- fever
- difficulty breathing
- new loss of smell or taste
- fatigue
- muscle aches
- headache
- congestion
- sore throat
- vomiting
you’ve been in close contact with anyone known to have COVID-19 in the past 14 days
- This applies to you if you were within 6 feet for 15 minutes or longer.
- This doesn’t apply to you if you’re
  - fully vaccinated
  - a health care worker, and you always wear an N95 respirator and proper personal protective equipment (PPE) or equivalent when in contact with COVID-19-positive people
you’ve returned from domestic air, international air or cruise ship travel in the past 10 days
- This doesn’t apply to you if you’re fully vaccinated.
you’ve been told to self-quarantine or self-isolate by a health care provider, public health official or government entity within the last 14 days

When you get to the facility

don’t enter more than 15 minutes before your appointment time
wear a facial covering that covers both your mouth and nose at all times
- If you don’t have a facial covering, you can either
  - ask US Citizenship and Immigration Services to give you one
  - reschedule your appointment for another time
enter the facility alone, without friends or family members
- Interpreters, attorneys and those providing assistance for people with disabilities are allowed.
use the hand sanitizer at the entryway
follow social distancing guidelines and pay close attention to all signs, guidance and physical barriers
you may also have to answer health-screening questions before entering the facility

Check the ASC’s website on the day of your appointment to make sure it’s open. You’re encouraged to bring your own black- or blue-ink pens.
